Left Hook to the Jaw From Tonya Harding
I remember sitting by the radio for hours...just waiting...listening. There was an excitement that would run through my body as I sat there, like the feeling of opening up a new email from a girlfriend. The anticipation of waiting to hear that one song that you can't get out of your head and hitting the record/play button simultaneously when it comes on so you can capture it and play it over and over again. The days of recording onto a tape from off the radio in order to pirate a song are long gone. It was a time when you truly appreciated a good hit song because you didn't get to hear it as often, and everytime you did it was as though it were a little gift of God sent through the airwaves specifically for you. After the long wait, or just being in the right place at the right time and you did manage to record the song it was a feeling of triumph. It was like a long boxing match against Tonya Harding that you had just come out of victorious. I freaking love it and yearn for it to come back.Today it is much different. If I like a song, I download it. Right away. I mean in minutes. I wear the song out in about a day on repeat. Then I move onto the next, like a gigolo making a quick buck. It's downright depressing. All the excitement, the victories over Tonya, and cassettes are gone to the wind like an ash off freshly smoked stoggie. I long for the old days. I want them back.
